The Rec Hotel

We had a great stay for 2 nights. Room was very basic but comfortable. We had a queen room with shared bathroom. Quite a few bathrooms to share so was never an issue. Kept clean and tidy. Not directly in town. Fair walk or short drive to get to shops or Main Street. Beautiful town.

We had house cleaners using the table and chairs outside our room smoking cigarettes, when there is a sign clearing stating no smoking and smoking needed to be in the car park. I am not a smoker and the smell was gross. The bed was terrible. And there was black hair all on the bathroom floor. Hotel staff when checking in were fantastic though..

I love coming to Northam and have stayed at the Rec in its former life as the Duke. It's been done up and the rooms are quite modern and nice. The prices have also gone up significantly and is way overpriced IMO... However it's a great pub with friendly staff, good, clean rooms. My biggest gripe was that there are construction works happening near the room we stayed in and there was a huge spotlight (I'm guessing for security) right outside our room. The blinds did nothing to keep the light out and it shone directly in my face all night, making it impossible to get a good night's sleep.

Food was great, room clean but needs to be more people friendly, no chair or anywhere to sit and no remote for TV.
