Matsushimakan

Matsushimakan was an absolute delight. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with beautiful views of the garden. The private baths were soothing and peaceful (and available every time I went to use one.) There were multiple rooms for relaxing, reading etc. all beautifully decorated. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. We spoke very little Japanese and they spoke only slightly more English but nevertheless, communication happened. When we were arrived they were happy to hold our luggage and even very kindly drove us to the town shrine and an outlook with views over the surrounding area. We did not expect this. It was a delightful surprise! We didn't know this in advance, but they are also happy to pick up/drop off to the station. We ended up walking because we like walking. The food was fresh, delicious and a wonderful experience. They kindly swapped out the beef for fish/tofu, for me (we'd asked an earlier hotel to call them to organise this for us). While we were eating dinner they moved the table in the room to the side, and laid out the futons. Overall, an incredible place to stay. Highly, highly recommended!
