Crown Hotel

There was some initial misunderstanding over our assistance dogs. However, once that had been sorted out, they couldn't have been more helpful. It's easy enough to get to - just a short walk from the station. We walked into the bar, and the lady very quickly checked us in and took us to our room - even offering to carry our suitcase (not something most chain hotels do nowadays). As you expect from an ancient Grade II listed building, it is quaint, with steepish, uneven stairs and wobbly floors! The room we were in was fairly small, as obviously the en-suite facilities are a later addition. But it was adequate enough, clean and nicely decorated. Because we had a meeting to, we didn't avail ourselves of the breakfast, but it looked and smelt good. Only complaints are minor - there was a shortage of sockets in the room, no shelves in the bathroom (or in the shower cubicle) to put toiletries. TV very small by modern standards and the mattress, although nice a firm, suffered from slight "roll-together", and we could just feel the springs. On the plus side, the free internet was excellent and the lighting in the room nice and bright. Both things that are generally lacking in modern chain hotels. So would we stay again if we were visiting the area? Yes. Definitely.

Hotel was nice and clean,very friendly staff

Hosts and staff at The Crown were super friendly, professional and helpful. Enjoyed a drink at the bar downstairs and a very quiet night of rest upstairs. Unique and historic accommodation with updated bathroom and free parking right in the centre of town.
