Crown House Hotel

Last minute B&B booking at this characterful little hotel in the quiet village of Great Chesterford. The hotel was a few minutes drive from junction 10 of the M11, so I had an easy 20-minute drive to Stansted early on Friday morning. Unfortunately, the night I stayed followed the hottest day of the year and there was no air conditioning. The room i stayed in was actually apart from the main building with access via an internal spiral staircase! The room was spacious and clean with a large en-suite bathroom. I didn't have time to explore the rest of the hotel bar/lounge or village as i had to get to the airport so early the next day but it was a charming little place, albeit perhaps in need of some decor updates and the addition of some air conditioning.

The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. Went out of their way to help us to repair a pair of reading glasses that had lost a screw. Breakfast was wonderful.

I’m a local resident ,have booked room at the Crown house a very last minute due to boiler issues at my home. I was welcomed by chap wearing dirty work clothes (think he was a maintenance guy?) He was very welcoming,let me to Check in earlier,have arrived 5 minutes to 3pm ,,was given a double bedroom ,even I was on my own ,which was nice of them .. The building needs a serious work ,bedroom was sweet,but not very well cleaned..especially bathroom ! Chairs,tables ,other props scattered around the garden after their last event ,which was giving very unwelcome feeling,shame because their garden grounds are kept very well .. Breakfast was very limited,could only get a cheap filtered coffee ,full English was missing hash browns ,cheap cardboard toast ,they have an amazing bakery few minutes walk from premises 🤷‍♀️why would you serve that ?and don’t pick up nice fresh pastries in the morning ?support other business in your own village ?i’ve have had digestion issues for 3 days after that breakfast sadly ..waitress also turned up an hour late ,I was served by an old lady whom I’ve got confused with guest at the beginning..I think this place just need some love …I would probably stay ,if desperate again ,but won’t recommend it as romantic gate away for sure ,it’s great if you need a clean bed for a night with low expectations !

Large room with large shower and comfortable bed. Friendly staff and an excellent full English breakfast
