Chalk Farm LDC

The biggest issue with our twin bedroom was the low timber beams on the ceiling and low height in the door and in the shower. My husband coulnt stand up in the shower and neither of us could move in it as it was very narrow. The wooden beams on the already low ceiling meant my husband kept banging his head. The breakfast although seemingly individually cooked was luke warm and so was the coffee.

We recently stayed at Chalk Farm LDC with our family, and unfortunately our overall experience was not very positive, even though there were a few things we appreciated. Upon arrival, we were a bit shocked by the entrance. The access to the property feels quite precarious, almost as if you are driving into a remote farm area. It was also difficult to understand where the hotel parking was located, as the same space is shared with a nursery, a plant shop, and a private farm property. The signs are very small and the lighting is poor, which made the arrival experience quite confusing. We eventually found the parking area and went to check in. The path to the reception feels like you're walking between private houses, and the entrance isn’t clearly marked. There was no one at the reception when we arrived, but a staff member came shortly after, collected our details, and gave us the room key. The place is extremely rustic — which could be charming for some, but it wasn’t exactly what we expected, especially because the photos on the website didn’t accurately reflect the reality. Our room was very clean, with no musty smell, and that was a pleasant surprise. The low ceilings throughout the property seem to be part of the building’s old English style. However, the room had no built-in heating. An electric heater had been provided, and thankfully it was enough to warm up the bedroom. The bathroom, on the other hand, was extremely cold and incredibly small. The shower space was so tiny that we constantly touched the cold walls while showering, which was very uncomfortable. We could also hear guests walking in the room above us, to the point where it felt like they might come through the ceiling — although the overall environment was quiet, which we did appreciate. Breakfast was actually very good, with nice options and friendly service. Our only complaint is the schedule: breakfast ends at 9:30, which feels too early, especially on a Sunday, considering checkout is at 10:00. In summary, while the staff were kind and the breakfast was enjoyable, the access, the lack of proper heating, the uncomfortable bathroom, and the overall rustic conditions made our stay less pleasant than we had hoped.

Chalk Farm is a nice building with nice rooms. However for a hotel with such history, I was hoping for a bit.... more. Our room was decorated acceptably, but it looked like they hadn't removed the previous wallpaper before adding rustic wood to the walls. There was also a picture or two on the floor instead of the walls. And the water pressure was awful. At the end of our stay we were told that they usually advise baths in that side of the building, but that would have been useful to know beforehand.
