Dalhousie Castle is undeniably a beautiful and imposing structure, set in lovely landscaped grounds. It's currently undergoing renovation works, evidenced by the number of large storage containers and works equipment, screened from the car-park. It looks a little unkempt when arriving into the car-park. We were not greeted upon arrival by the receptionist with straight blonde hair. After she'd shown another set of guests to the room, she walked straight past us without acknowledgment. She hit her stride a bit better when showing us to the room, however there was no warmth there. The rooms are beautifully appointed and there has clearly been some thought put into the styling. *** is exceptionally stuffy and hot. It sits right above the kitchens and looks out over a dirty flat roof with a great big extractor fan, which precludes you from keeping the window open to let fresh air in. The router is placed by the door on the ceiling and emits a sleep disturbing bright blue light, so bring a sleep mask! The toiletries provided are good quality. At 06:05 we were awoken by loud crashing of glass bottles being smashed into the recycling bins by the kitchen staff. We did not avail the restaurants, however we were hoping to try the bar menu. We also got a very dour reception from Derek the bar-tender, who failed to acknowledge my husband at the bar, again no greeting or pleasantries. For £18.50 a cocktail, it should be served with some semblance of charismatic customer service. Upon finishing our drinks, we were considering asking for the bar-menu, but were again ignored by another 2 staff at the till so decided otherwise. Breakfast was served in the Ramsay Rooms, which again is delicately decorated with nice touches and the continental spread has a good selection. The waitress at breakfast was again, dour, unsmiling 'What's your room number?'. She failed to take our finished continental settings/plates away and we needed to awkwardly move these when she brought out the main breakfast entrees. These were presented very well and tasted great. Hot drinks were plonked on the table, so much so it caused the coffee to spill. Upon checkout we brough the main issues to the receptionist, who took an uninterested note and said she'd pass to management. On leaving we watched a poor American couple have their suitcases pushed out the door awkwardly by the bell boy, no effort in carrying these out to the waiting taxi. For a hotel that is marketing itself as a 'luxury' accommodation and charging upwards of *** a night, there are some aspects which are falling short; mainly the service.

Beautiful interiors and rooms. Exceptional breakfast. Great service. Lovely grounds and walks. Not cheap but very worthwhile for a special stay. Allowed us to check in early. Would highly recommend and stay again!

It's not everyday you will get to stay in a castle. Though the location is abit off from Edinburgh, we are very satisfied with our accommodation due to the size and quality of the room, amazing breakfast and view from the restaurant and plenty to explore within and outside of it. Lastly, the staffs were sweet to offer us some gifts for our wedding anniversary. There's several facilities available (ie. Library, bar, spa) but most of them come with a cost. The downside of it is you will need a car to get there (free parking available) plus a there's no lift and staffs' assistance to get your luggages up the stairs. Otherwise it was all good for us.

Really helpful and accommodating staff, everyone was lovely. Great value for money, and thinking of buy some stays as gifts for family.

I don't have words to describe how amazed we were with castle surroundings.
