The Poppy House

1 night stay and chose this hotel for the cheaper rates compared to other accommodation in the area. The photos don't do it justice What a lovely room in a grade 2 listed building, full of character and in a great central location. The room unexpectedly had a mini fridge supplied with milk and cold bottled water. This was appreciated and a nice touch, as was the supply of ear plugs to counter the charming chiming of the town clock. This didn't affect my stay but it's nice to see the owners try to mitigate this noise which some may find intrusive. Overall a lovely room, comfortable bed and nice en suite. Full stars only lowered because of the height of the shower which was low due to the ceiling height and space it's been fitted into. However I much prefer an ensuite and I don't mind stooping down for a nice hot shower.

Full of period charm. Convenient for a night in Bishop's Castle, especially as entry is by keypad and we could check in after midday. Wonky stairs, uneven floor and soft beds were a downside for us as elderly people. Shower was difficult to operate.
