I always wanted to stay here, and had the opportunity to just last night. Perfectly situated on Church Street, in the heart of old Whitby. Lovely and pleasant staff, nice breakfast, and an easy to work hot shower, but could have been cleaner, and my sleep was non existent due to the drunk, loud, snoring couple.....on the floor below! Just take ear plugs and you'll be fine.

Not for the Handicapped
It's a grade 2 cottage set away from the main bar/hotel. Cobblestone courtyard with 3 small flight Of stairs to get there . 3 floors with 2 steep staircase to the bedrooms. Can sleep Up to six , but would be crowded. It's a very nice and well kept old cottage in a good area of Whitby. But would advise against anyone being handicapped. Oh and breakfast you have to pay for, because the cottage is not part of the hotel. 🤔

Nice quirky hotel. The staff was friendly, rooms clean and a good breakfast option. I would stay again , good value for money

Lovely two nights stay.
Was greeted by a very friendly lady who showed us to our room and explained everything clearly. We was lucky enough to have our double room upgraded to a king due to it being quiet at the time and the room was very nice with a big king size bed and an ensuite with a massive shower.

Quirky attic room
Staying in a inn dating back to 1681 was an experience in itself and I loved my quirky attic room - in spite of the very steep steps (both the ones inside the room and the ones to get to the floor the room door is on) and the space the bed has been fitted into makes it also a little difficult to move about. I also had a bit of trouble with the room lock - it uses an old skeleton key and, from the inside, you have to unlock the door crouching at an angle on the steps, so it took me a good 2-3 mins to successfully get out every time - which was a bit frustrating. I would recommend switching to a regular lock. Other than that, everything was perfect, especially the included full English breakfast- it was generous and delicious! Oh, and I learned on a tour that the hotel is haunted by the ghost of Beatrix Potter! :)
