Ballathie House Hotel

Our fifth stay here to fish. Excellent value for money hotel with all the features you would expect from a Scottish hotel. Food is very good, but the bar is on the small side. Riverside rooms give a fantastic view over the Tay and have wi fi. The Sportsman’s are basic but great for drying out your wet gear and are exceptionally good value.

We had a lovely evening at Ballathie House. The hotel is dated,, but at one time was quite opulent. The showers are very small, but the beds are very comfortable. The large spacious rooms were worn, the entire hotel needs to be painted and they could use some updated means for heating, cooling and ventilation, but the beds were comfortable and spacious. We splept well despite a lack of air flow through the room. The real gem of this hotel is it's kitchen, chef and servers. While some of the staff at registration and in management were distant and almost cold in their reception, the restaurant staff were warm and friendly. Christina, our waitress/server was personable and professional, allowing us a glimpse of true personality and hospitality that transcended the general cool atmosphere of some of the other staff. She was the very spirit of Scottish hospitality, and I hope the management understands what a treasure they have on their hands. The grounds and the river were lovely, and we hope to return someday for a longer stay. The fishing looks great, but the food was off the charts delicious. My wife and I were delighted by the earthy savory entrees and really enjoyed the selection of Scottish farm cheeses on the dessert menu. The hotel has a large and diverse wine and whiskey menu, which we took advantage of for some new experiences! High recommendation for a classic Scottish hotel, despite its age and condition!
