Before we came to Lelewatu Resort, we read a lot of bad comments, so we were concerned what to expect. One thing for sure: the management completely left behind the hotel (according to the Indonesian media, there is some legal case ongoing, so the appointed GM is in Bali). The place is like several 5* hotels were in Bali during the covid, when some cost efficiency measurements were taken: a few things are missing from the full ‘luxurious experience’, but the villa we stayed at was still stunning, the interior was beautiful and it was clean in general. The staff was extremely kind, though they speak basic English, so it can help if you speak a little Indonesian (or just use google translate). Breakfast was good and portions were quite big, we had the American and the healthy breakfast bowl. We had dinner there too, which was okay, but I highly recommend to ask what is fresh that day (fish or maybe some Indonesian dishes), because we had concerns about the rib eye steak (the tenderloin was okay though). On another note, the standbying manager handled the situation very well. The organized trip was amazing: the price was reasonable, the driver was super attentive (he was not a guide, but accompanied us during the trip and he knew the best spots to take photos at), also the hotel included umbrellas, towels and even some snacks. The places we visited were very beautiful, if you visit Sumba, I highly recommend to try these trips. In general I think it worth to visit for a few nights, and if you have any concerns regarding the food or the room’s cleaniness, just tell them. I live in Indonesia for 8 years and I can guarantee you, you will never find a better deal for such a nice private pool villa in Indonesia.

We will start by saying that the Staff are beautiful Nick/Grace and John were so friendly and accomodating. Be prepared as this is essentially a budget Nihi. We have stayed at many 3/4 star resorts before and rolled the dice on Lelewatu being our first 5 star experience. However we were quite disappointed. First of all the booking and payment without cancellation didn’t sit right with us. After booking we read a lot of negative reviews and felt a bit worried. So worried that we actually stocked up on groceries as other people mentioned the food being overpriced. Which it was, western prices for food that was often cold. You would argue that it is because of the remote island and location.. however this is not factual as within a 30 minute drive you’re paying ordinary prices for hot quality meals. A few other cons to note: overhead shower did not work (dripped at best). Toiletries were not restocked daily when room was cleaned. Long waits for meals, sometimes up to 1 hour and 30 minutes. Pick up and drop off the restraunt requests forgotten about often. You may find that you will have a different experience however just be weary before booking as we feel that this place is a 4 star at best. We have been treated better at 2 star home stays. Some pros to note. Location is serene! island is beautiful and worth a visit. Be careful here and do not expect 5 stars service, quality and cleanliness.

The hotel has a really good potentiel but it wasn't exactly as we expected. It would need to be renovated. The villa are not really well exposed so the private pool is cold. Personal is friendly.

We loved our stay at Lelewatu and feel very grateful to have been able to experience staying there. We stayed in a cliff pool view villa, the view is spectacular, the villa itself is so beautifully designed and very clean. The pool is a nice size, very clean and has such a beautiful outlook. the bathtub is lovely overlooking the ocean and fills up very fast with clean water. The bed is comfortable with nice linens. The staff are all very helpful and kind and we really have enjoyed all meals that have been lovingly prepared and delivered to our room. Although neither of these two things would deter us from staying again they are worth noting. 1 the villa floor itself is noticeably unlevel and tilts down towards the back wall of the villa. 2 If you are a surfer this location does prove a little difficult and the hotel itself does not have a boat for transfers nor were they able to supply us with a rental bike that has a surfboard rack. As my husband is an experienced rider and has previous experience of navigating in rural areas using google maps he managed, although the trips to find the waves were not too comfortable without having a surfboard rack. If you have your own car or rent a car with a driver that is familiar with the area this may be fine for you to get to the local surf spots which are all around 30 minutes from the hotel. This is an ideal resort for honeymooners, couples of families looking for peace and tranquility.

Picturesque views and calm atmosphere with friendly staff. Vegan food options as well local travel on the island are a concern.
