Krouma Camp & Ecolodge

The experience of staying at this hotel was terrible. The Agoda booking page clearly stated that the triple‑bed room had air conditioning, but there was none in reality. When we communicated with the housekeeper, he insisted the booking page had not mentioned air‑conditioning. After we expressed our dissatisfaction, he agreed to move us to an air‑conditioned double room, which only had one bed for three people. Initially, the housekeeper refused to add an extra bed. Only after a long standoff did he finally agree. The room hygiene was poor. As it is a brick building, dust kept falling down. There were even bugs crawling on the bed, and all three of us got bitten on our legs. The toilet was basic and unhygienic. The shower area was only separated by a simple curtain, with limescale all over the floor. During our two‑night stay, towels and bath towels were not replaced, and no bottled water was provided. We paid over *** for two nights (***/ ***), far more expensive than other local hotels, yet the experience was extremely disappointing. The only positives are the nice island scenery, many stray cats, and staff who helped carry luggage.

Stayed four nights at Krouma and it was amazing. Out of the main hustle and bustle of Aswan, which is what I wanted. The boat to take you over to the island runs until 10pm but I arrived late and also got back late one evening and Mody got me across! I found not all taxis through the indrive app wanted to come and pick me up, it's pretty off road. Getting a tuktuk back from town is probably easier. It's a short walk up to the main road where you can flag a taxi down. Or Krouma can arrange a driver (250egp from the train station when I stayed). It's about a 10 minute walk along the Nile to the ferry for Seheil Island. The island is so beautiful, being able to get up and walk into the Nile for a swim was so special. I also hired a kayak and went round the island which was fun. I went the wrong way round and couldn't make it against the current but was rescued by a boat who took me back. The oriental breakfast was delcious and the cafe is a gorgeous place to sit with a fresh juice or a turkish coffee any time of day or night. The lodge I stayed in was basic but the shower was hot and the bed was comfortable. There was no Nubian entertainment on while I was there, but I found out on the last day that there were some musicians staying. Krouma hosts art residencies and they are connected to local artists. I hope to come back and get involved with something like that.
