Formosa Guest House

We stayed for 3 nights and would highly recommend. All members of the team were welcoming and very helpful, the room was clean, spacious and tranquil especially given the prime location of the beautiful building. The shared kitchen area was ideal to make a cup of coffee to enjoy on the spacious roof terrace, taking in the magnificent river and rooftop views. You won’t find a better location in Tavira and we look forward to returning soon :)

Overall we'd recommend staying here if you're in Tavira. The location is great and the room and bathroom were clean, bright and well appointed. They're were however a couple of things that we didn't like. Firstly, when we arrived there was no-one in reception - it wasn't the lunchtime hour that they state - and, although we rang the bell as instructed on the desk, nobody came. We rang again and waited until it was obvious no-one was coming, so we left our bags and sent the property a message to ask them to let is know when they'd be there. We got no reply, so sweet a couple of hours we went back. The lady who was there then gave us a very cool reception; no smile, no welcome, she just looked totally disinterested and we felt rather an inconvenience to her. We got settled in and then looked in the kitchen to find that virtually everything was extra and you needed to pay. Coffee or tea? Pay extra. Milk? Extra. Jam or honey? Extra. We just didn't bother because it rather irritated us. Overall,, due to the nice room, we'd recommend, but it's a close call due to the attitude of the person at reception and the rather parsimonious way that additional things were set up here.

Right in the centre by bridge. Walking distance from bus station. Remember to look up for the sign (quite small) as accommodation starts on upper floor. No lift. Had a good clean, bright room with own bathroom. Also on same floor was a kitchen with facilities including washing machine and exit to a rooftop sitting area. We were a couple only staying a couple of nights so didn't need but these amenities helpful for families staying longer. Plenty of restaurants, shops, tourist sites and ferry to beach nearby. Convenient location and good value.

Despite the high season and often crowded places in Algarve, we felt at home in this lovely guesthouse. The location is premium, right in the very centre of beautiful town Tavira, the staff is discreet yet friendly and helpful when needed, the room is superb with a true vintage touch of the 50’s. For those who find luxury in simplicity (no swimming pool nor elevator for instance ) they will be pleased, for an overall good price in the Algarve reality.

Clean, very central and 3 min walk to the bus station.
