My kids are train-obsessed, so staying here was a no-brainer. The hotel itself? Actually kind of genius. Those train car rooms are a fun concept, and the kids went absolutely nuts. Major win. The beds, though… apparently, sleep is optional here. Two nights, zero comfort. I think they were designed by someone who hates happiness. Now, the restaurant. Strap in. My kids wanted to eat there purely because of the hype. Fine. We walk in, and the waitress asks for our drink order. My wife and I spot the local beer list and, being responsible adults on vacation, decide to order two beers with our apps. Totally normal, right? Fast-forward: apps arrive, we place our dinner order, and politely ask for two more beers. Suddenly, we’re hit with the restaurant’s “ancient, mysterious policy” that we can’t order any more alcohol for two hours. No signs. No warning. Nothing. The manager shows up (I’m calling her Karen, because the attitude was peak Karen) to enforce this nonsense. Water or soda only. Because apparently, stimulating the economy and enjoying a vacation drink is now illegal. The food? Oh, the food. I ordered the “homemade” meatloaf. It might as well have been burnt gravy glued to a Goodyear tire. My wife’s sandwich came with one sad, wilted leaf of lettuce, probably as a garnish or a threat we’re still not sure. We’ll definitely return to the area, because the trains were awesome. But the restaurant? Avoid it unless you enjoy bad food, pointless rules, and people telling you when you can have a drink. Honestly, it’s hard to imagine a more absurd dining experience.

Wonderful time

Our stay at the Red Caboose Motel was an unforgettable experience, offering a perfect blend of nostalgia and comfort. The renovated train cabooses were cozy, clean, and filled with charm, making for a one-of-a-kind overnight stay. The location was ideal, with beautiful countryside views and close proximity to Amish attractions and the Strasburg Railroad. The on-site restaurant served delicious food, and the staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. If you're looking for a fun and unique getaway, the Red Caboose Motel is a fantastic choice!

Definitely basic amenities inside the caboose but super clean and very very comfy beds and clean towels and linens. The experience was super cool for the kids and very close to all the tourist things in Lancaster. The food was amazing at the restaurant and there’s a bar!
