South East Bay Hotel (Huizhou West Lake Pedestrian Street)

The hotel's location is superb, situated near the Huizhou West Lake. It is within walking distance from major tourist attractions and there are many bus routes nearby. The interior design of the hotel was interesting, with a hollow separation between rooms on one side which are half level upper or lower than those on the other side. Facilities were provided as stated on Agoda's website and the room was clean and tidy. Overall speaking, it is a good choice for a budget traveller. However, the worst thing is that the counter staff took a photo of my identity document without my consent upon check-in with a mobile phone (uncertain to be her own or the company's). I assume it is a standard requirement by the local government to take note of identity information of a traveller rather than the whole image of the identity document (which should be for the hotel's or the staff's own convenience only). Ok then I let it be and when checking out, I asked the staff to delete my photo, she started to browse the mobile phone at first but then told me that she would delete it later as the phone does not have so much capacity to contain so many photos. I guess that means she always took photos of travellers' identity documents. I wonder if this is appropriate, as in the first place I doubt if it is the company's or her phone, and second the photo image could be sent to anybody and may be exploited for illegal purposes like faking one's identity or moneylending as all personal information is contained in the image. I suppose if an identity document is to be retained by the hotel, it should be scanned into a secure system rather than taking photo by a mobile phone which is capable of disseminating every traveller's personal information, or being stolen or hacked easily. In case it is a must to take photo by mobile phone, consent from the traveller should be sought in the first place, otherwise the hotel should copy essential information only.

The hotel is right on Sai Woo. And walking street. Bus is right in front of the hotel . Can almost go anywhere. I recommend.

Located opposite Huizhou West Lake and near pedestrian streets. Facilities minimal as it’s relatively cheap.
