“Kokopo Beach Bungalow is an apt symbol for the tragedy of wasted tourism potential in much of Papua New Guinea. The facilities are nice and activities on offer are interesting, but the experience is marred by the poor hospitality of the staff and the enormously high prices that do not match the experience offered. We booked three expensive tours for our group of four over a weekend stay. The hotel provided a quotation two weeks in advance and insisted that we paid the full sum before our arrival. The offer matched our budget so we complied with this request, only to be asked for more money after completing the activities, presumably due to a calculation error done by one of the staff members. Furthermore, when one of our group members forgot something in their hotel room during one of the tours and requested for it to be delivered to them, the hotel demanded a rate that was more expensive than the price of the tour for a single item to be delivered a mere 30 minutes away. Furthermore, on our last day, the hotel airport shuttle was 45 minutes later than the time we had requested for it and we almost missed our flight as a result of this. Only after extensive negotiation with the airline, our group was able to convince them to not bump us off the flight. It is also outrageous that a hotel that brands itself as a beach resort has a terrible maintained plot of beach covered in trash and glass pieces. All these things left a bad taste in our mouths from a trip that could have been special if the barest minimum amount of hospitality would have been shown by the staff. We were particularly dissappointed by the conduct of Adriana and Glenda. One positive side of the hotel is the restaurant with an excellent Indian chef and friendly and attentive waitresses.”
