When we entered our room for the first time, we discovered it was handicap. Big surprise!!! Great for those who requested such a room but for us it was a very uncomfortable accommodation, shower, bathroom, hide a bed, and an odor that you would not expect from most any property, let alone, Marriott. We called the front desk, and they said that was the only room available that they had, and they could do nothing about it. They would tell the staff in the blocking and we could call in the morning about 9 AM and see maybe about the possibility of getting a different room. So that was the room, and regardless of how uncomfortable it was, that was ours for the night. Nothing about we can send you to another hotel with similar quality and reputation, this is just all we can do. All the years I have been staying at Marriott, I have never ever heard that Resignation from Staff. So, in a strange city and getting late at night, we decided we would make the best of it. My wife put perfume on the pillows, we decided to not even bother with a shower, although we had anticipated one that night. Because the bed was low to the floor, the bedspread and sheet were tucked around the foot of the bed and sticking out , and my wife caught her foot on material and fell flat on the tile. Scary. She thought she was OK, was very sore the next morning. Of course, that did not add to the ambiance of the evening, or perhaps it did- just not in a positive way. The next morning we did call and talk to one of the was very sympathetic, said she would see where she could move us, and she would call us back in just a few minutes. She was as good as her word, and gave us another room in another unit and even offered staff to help move our stuff. We thanked her for that, and moved our own stuff, moving a little slower than usual. The new room was nice, clean, no trip hazards, usable shower, and comfortable. Great! Probably do not need to mention it, but 2 other items colored our stay. First, the night Staff from the first night seemed to indicate part of their inability to do anything was that we had booked a room through a third-party. Did not make sense or seem fair to us if we were paying full price for the room! Second, this was our getaway for our 50th anniversary- December 22, 1973. I believe our anticipation was for beyond the reality and we should not have had such expectations. My bad. So, Not really a golden experience, perhaps just a little off-yellow.
