Grand Hotel Slavia

I have to dig deep into my memory to remember another hotel (likely the Royal Mena House Oberoi in Cairo) with such a regal selection of breakfast food. The fastest depleted staple of 'palacinke', so be good on timing when they are re-supplied, for pancakes with lovely fresh fruit and some honey or marmelade on the side! Advice for the early riser to rush to breakfast as you'll be the first to enjoy (as I did twice on a 5 day stay) exquisite strawberries. Always friendly staff around too! Bed was made daily but it's recommended to talk to staff if you want bed throw or linen change. Only a towel on the bathroom floor or discarded in the sink will be changed, as customary. Don't expect to sleep out (too) late as the campanil belltower of the adjacent church goes off 7:00 a.m. and each subsequent hour. The spa was very soothing and relaxing, and the whirlpools were also quite cozy. A handful of removed (chipped off?) mini-tiles on the edge of the whirlpool basins aside, it all looked and felt pristine. The beach side and rest of the riviera offers plenty choice of restaurants to try out. Compared to e.g. the historical and charming Trogir in peak Summer period, Baska Voda and its marina even felt a tad less tourist-y and less ostentatious in terms of the (size of) yachts at its marina, although it may be an unfair comparison. I'd definitely have the Grand Hotel Slavia as first choice if I'd prefer a more 'anonymous' getaway without the evening fuss or troupes of ogling fellow tourists.
