Hostal Raíces de mi Pueblo

This hostal has an excellent mountain view but you pay for it by being on the edge of Suchitoto. We were in the queen room which was spacious with a big bathroom and great view. It also had a lot of windows and gets sun most of the day so it was hot. The A/C was quiet and worked very well. The shower did not have hot water but it was great in every other way. The staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, there is a designated neighborhood trash dump in front of the hostal and the bad odor drifts into the common area (not into our room though). We also got unlucky with a really loud night with thumping music until late and firecrackers going off until dawn. The roosters in the back were loud throughout the night but the pigeons walking around on the metal roof in the morning were louder. None of these issues is the fault of the hostal but you might want to take them into consideration if you're sensitive to smells and sounds. We chose to order the breakfast which was good and filling. The morning staff didn't seem to have the information that we had ordered breakfast and already paid but they got it together quickly and took our word that we paid (which we did but hadn't received a receipt or breakfast ticket). The hostal has a very cute common room and a nice balcony with hammocks and plenty of places to hang out. It's close to the Alejandro Cotto museum and Lake Suchitlan but it's about a 15 minute walk to the plaza. For the price range, we didn't find many other options.
